August 12
Course: Durable & Resilient Retrofits – Solving with stone wool insulation| Understanding Advancing WallSystem Design around Continuous Insulation
Speakers: Rockwool
DESCRIPTION: Globally, existing buildings account for approximately 30% of final energy demand and CO2emissions. Typical renovation rates are 1-2% of the building stock per year, with an average energy use intensity (EUI) reduction of less than 15%.
However, to reach sustainable development and climate targets, EUI reductions should be between 30-50%.In addition to energy and emissions conservations, building retrofits improve occupant health and comfort. In many cases, existing buildings are poorly insulated and leaky, resulting in excess heat loss and reducedthermal comfort. Mechanical systems are often outdated and inefficient, requiring consistent maintenance. With spending most of our time indoors, indoor health and comfort can be a priceless attribute that can becrucial for building renewal investment. This course will review core concepts to consider when implementingenergy conservation measures through retrofit & renovation; Three unique case studies are provided to highlight the complexity of renovations and look at the ever-present challenges of extreme weather events.
This one hour educational session will cover the latest in building enclosure technology for energy efficient buildings. Presented by one of North America's leading manufacturers of insulation, A ROCKWOOLRepresentative will provide an in-depth discussion of emerging wall that provide durable, cost effective and thermally efficient performance. Recent building and energy code changes will be reviewed including an opportunity to discuss solutions to meet these more stringent requirements. Current building science research and field monitoring information will be presented, demonstrating how insulation materials perform under different climatic conditions and how R-values change with time and season. Strategies to construct highly insulated wall assemblies and avoid thermal bridging will be presented, The seminar will cover all building types and construction materials, with a few highlights and lessons learned from building science researchers
