The City of White Plains is seeking a highly qualified and experienced professional to serve as the Commissioner of Building. The Commissioner serves as the chief executive officer of the City’s Department of Building, providing strategic leadership and operational oversight for all building-related functions.
Position Overview
Under the general direction of the Mayor, the Commissioner of Building leads and manages the Department of Building and is responsible for the administration and enforcement of all applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and ordinances governing buildings, structures, land use, signs, and occupancy within the City of White Plains, excluding public streets. The Commissioner oversees permitting, inspections, certificates of occupancy, and enforcement activities to ensure public health, safety, and welfare. The incumbent supervises departmental operations and personnel, and serves as a principal advisor to City leadership, boards, professionals, and the public on building and code-related matters.
Education and Experience
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or Architecture;
• A minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience in municipal building code enforcement,
structural engineering, architecture, or building construction;
• At least three (3) years of experience in an administrative or managerial capacity; and
• Possession of a New York State license as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA).

Requirements:
Enrolled in or graduated from an accredited B.Arch or B.S. Arch program.

Position Details: Our firm is seeking a Project Architect with 4–7 years of professional experience who is highly proficient in construction documentation and familiar with public bid, educational, and institutional projects. This role is suited for a motivated architectural professional who can work independently on assigned tasks, contribute across all project phases, and support construction administration with limited oversight.
The position will support multiple active K–12 educational projects currently in design and construction. Candidates should be comfortable integrating into ongoing projects and coordinating closely with senior staff, consultants, and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and coordinate construction documents for public bid projects
• Assist with bid documentation, addenda, and consultant coordination
• Review and respond to submittals, RFIs, and change orders
• Coordinate with consultants to resolve drawing and specification issues
• Participate in construction administration, including site visits and field reports
• Maintain organized project documentation and correspondence
Required Qualifications
• 4–7 years of professional architectural experience
